Position Purpose

This position provides leadership for career development services within the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business and the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Job Functions

Job Function

Provides career coaching services to assist students and alumni in developing and implementing career decisions and plans. Utilizes online career management tools and other resources. Organizes, presents and evaluates Career Development events, workshops and class presentations. Provides resume writing, interviewing and job search assistance. Reviews and critiques students and graduates’ resumes and cover letters.

Job Function

Provides guidance and day to day supervision of the part-time Curb College Career Development Specialist. Meets with Director on a regular basis to discuss the work of the part-time specialist.

Job Function

Plans and implements the career development program for students interested in Music Business, Entertainment, & Performing Arts. Evaluates the career development program and provides recommendations for changes.

Job Function

Actively conducts employer outreach on a weekly basis. Builds and maintains a network of entertainment and music industry professionals. Represents Belmont University in external affairs and events involving entertainment and music business employers.

Job Function

Assists with Office of Career & Professional Development social media strategy to market events and services. Contributes to the Curb College blog.

Job Function

Facilitates connections between students, alumni and employers. Collaborates with academic administrators, faculty, and other relevant university colleagues to enhance students’ career development options and success.

Job Function

Assists with collection and reporting of the first destination data for the university.

Job Function

Assists with Towering Traditions, Foundations Sessions, and other Curb College, CVPA and Career & Professional Development events as needed.

Knowledgeable about business practices, human resources, problem resolution and customer service.

Knowledgeable about Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Equal Employment Opportunity laws, Affirmative Action employment laws, Americans with Disabilities Act, laws regarding eligibility to work in the United States and any other state or federal employment or student related statute.

Knowledgeable about the university and its academic programs.

Knowledgeable about employer needs and expectations.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment, and to communicate with colleagues, students, faculty, staff, administration and employers in a collaborative and professional manner.

Ability to advise and/or assist students and alumni with their career development goals, job search, and strategies for success.

Ability to research information and provide class presentations and workshops on resume writing, interviewing, and exploring career options.

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate various activities and events.

Ability to communicate to internal and external customers utilizing effective communication skills including public speaking and excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to market services to internal and external customers.

Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with members of the community at large.

Ability to create letters, reports, presentations and graphs utilizing various software programs including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.

Ability to view and update student and alumni records in the Career Services CareerConnector database and view student and alumni records in Banner.


Proven track record as a Career Services professional at the college or university level or as a Human Resources professional. Minimum of five years professional experience in the Entertainment and Music Business Industry.


Master’s degree preferred.
