Position Purpose

To work within the Creative Services & broader UMPR team to conceptualize, design and execute print and electronic marketing/advertising materials that strategically and creatively support University Marketing efforts while safeguarding, advancing and promoting Belmont’s brand identity. Brings additional value to the University by raising the bar and pushing the boundaries on creative assignments and being highly proficient in print/production management.

Consult with internal clients to conceptualize and produce graphic design & marketing collaterals that effectively and creatively support the University’s brand.

Work to meet established production schedules and assigned deadlines. Proactively communicate with internal clients on job status.

Coordinate all aspects of the production process with external vendors including quoting and providing finished pre-press files. Understand and adhere to all postal regulations & attend press checks as necessary or as directed by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proven print design knowledge and experience.

Strong, conceptual thinker who possesses a wide range of design capabilities including a solid background in print, branding, typography and illustration or original art.

Able to collaborate with – and lead when called upon – other members of the Creative Services team and effectively communicate ideas.

Self-driven, proactive and a team player.

Able to problem solve and find multiple design solutions, especially under narrow parameters or strict budget restraints.

Must be proficient in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator and other creative Mac platforms.

Knowledge for preparation of electronic pre-press files.

Must possess knowledge of graphic techniques in the printing industry; ability to work in 4-color and spot-color production of materials.

Color correcting abilities are a plus.

Ability to design and create basic .gif animations for online ad banners and websites, and the ability to translate basic print design components to web-ready formats.

Ability to coordinate text, graphics and photography relating to team members, customers and vendors.

Successfully manages their time, work flow and schedule in order to meet deadlines.

Ability and knowledge necessary to coordinate print jobs with outside vendors, including setting materials specifications, estimating, scheduling, awarding job, press checks and inspection of final product versus pre-determined standards.

Ability and flexibility to work additional hours as necessary to complete a project according to timeline.

Strong work ethic with a keen attention to detail.

Experience

3-5 years experience in Graphic Design is required.

Education

Bachelor’s or associates degree in graphic design or the equivalent with extensive course work.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Sedentary work. Occasionally requires standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying and climbing, reaching both high and low. Frequently requires walking and balancing. Constantly requires sitting, repetitious finger and wrist movement, speaking clearly, hearing conversations, hearing (with acuity), seeing near and far with depth perception and color vision. Dual level office area with open semi-private and wall-less stations. Extensive time at computer/scanner systems and equipment.
