Position Purpose

This position is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of compensation and benefits programs. This position will proactively research, analyze and evaluate compensation and benefits plans and programs to ensure alignment with Belmont’s goals and competitive practices.

Job Functions

Job Function

Manage all compensation and benefits programs, policies and procedures, including but not limited to job evaluation, job classification/reclassification, development, implementation and maintenance of salary structures, welfare plans (health, dental, vision, life, disability , FMLA/FPML and other voluntary plans) and retirement programs.

Job Function

Provide research, expertise, and ongoing evaluation of all compensation and benefit programs and processes and vendor effectiveness to assess cost savings, process improvements, and compliance with legal requirements.

Job Function

Lead annual benefits enrollment and compensation review processes. Participate in planning meetings; lead benefits committee; and work closely with the finance and accounting office.

Job Function

Facilitate relationships with insurance brokers and various vendors to renew and implement plans and programs.

Job Function

Maintain a solid knowledge of Federal and State related laws and regulations to ensure compliance with regulatory provisions.

Job Function

Provide oversight and data for the preparation of all regulatory filings and nondiscrimination testing (e.g. 403b audit, 5500 and ACA reporting).

Develop open enrollment materials, Summary Plan Descriptions and any others miscellaneous benefit communications.

Responsible for benefit inquiries to ensure a quick, equitable, and courteous resolution.

Maintain benefits web site including creation of web pages, forms and tutorials.

Provide reports to leadership as requested. Serve on internal and external committees as needed.

Participate in compensation and benefit surveys such as CUPA-HR and Mercer. Resolve IRS/SSA Data Match issues.

Must have a strong knowledge of local, state and federal wage and employment laws and regulations.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Ability to create and deliver presentations to a wide variety of audiences.

Ability to manage details while also thinking strategically. Possess an aptitude for numbers and accuracy.

Ability to organize and prioritize workload.

Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations. Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work.

CCP (Certified Compensation Professional), CBP (Certified Benefits Professional), CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) or similar certification.


Five years progressively responsible compensation and benefits related experience with demonstrated success managing in-house compensation and benefits programs.

Experience in higher education or non-profit is preferred.


Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field is required. Master’s degree preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Sedentary work. Occasionally requires standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying and climbing, reaching both high and low. Frequently requires walking and balancing. Constantly requires sitting, repetitious finger and wrist movement, speaking clearly, hearing conversations, hearing (with acuity), seeing near and far with depth perception.

Work environment is in an older building but is generally comfortable. Some temperature changes occur.
