Position Purpose

Facility Assistants report to the Director, Assistant Director and the Facilities Graduate Assistant and are responsible for assisting with different functions of facility operations that occur at the Beaman Information Desk, in weight room, and other areas within in the fitness center. Facility Assistants are also responsible for assisting with different functions of facility operations including the Climbing Wall, outdoor trips, outdoor rentals, and special events.

Major Responsibilities at the Beaman Information Desk:
• Monitor access control for the Department of Fitness & Recreation including membership issues & guest passes

Job Function

• Manage equipment check out and reservations through Fusion

Job Function

• Inform patrons of FitRec offerings including memberships, locker rentals, personal and small group training packages, group fitness classes, intramural sports, outdoor trips & special events

Job Function

• Be familiar with the lay out campus including offices and departments within the BSLC as well as other buildings around campus & directions

Job Function

• Knowledge of emergency procedures and responsibilities of BID in emergency situations

Job Function

• Enforce policies in regards to facility access, equipment rental, membership requirements and expectations

Major Responsibilities within the Weight Room:
• Educate patrons on the proper use of cardiovascular and strength equipment including demonstrating exercises and spotting

Job Function

• Enforce weight room policies such as proper equipment use, dress code, appropriate conduct

Job Function

• Create and maintain a safe environment through equipment inspection and cleaning equipment

Job Function

• Monitor activity of the RecGym and Group Fitness Room

Job Function

Major Responsibilities at the Climbing Wall:
• Teach and demonstrate to patrons safe climbing and belaying technique

Job Function

• Build effective and challenging routes on the climbing wall

Job Function

• Supervise patrons at the climbing wall

Job Function

• Manage outdoor equipment rental program and manage equipment inventory

Job Function

• Assist in organizing and registration for outdoor trips, special events and program

Job Function

• Create a safe environment for patrons & conduct safety inspections

Job Function

• Develop a positive environment for patrons by greeting, encouraging and interacting with them

Job Function

• Attend required Reunions, CEUs, training and other developmental programs

Job Function

• Other duties assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent oral communication skills with co-workers, supervisors, patrons, and guests
• Excellent customer interaction skills with co-workers, supervisors, patrons, and guests
• Ability to multitask in stressful situations
• Ability to work outside conventional work hours (e.g. weekends, late nights, and some holidays)
• Manage and maintain records
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office, preferably Excel and Access

Experience
Education

Must be enrolled as a current student at Belmont University.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Must be able to lift 45 lbs
