Position Purpose

Instruct students in tap, ballet, contemporary, hip hop or jazz dance.

Job Functions

Job Function

Oserve and correct dance students as they attempt the movement themselves.

Job Function

Select and plan class content, which may include stretching, improvisation, dance techniques, strength exercises or combinations.

Job Function

Select all music and choreography of dance combinations.

Job Function

Determine class skill and age levels with later adjustments as necessary.

Job Function

Select costumes with parent participation.
Design a recital program.

Job Function

Solicit volunteers to assist with rehearsals and performance.
Attend periodic staff meetings.
Attend educational training.

Job Function

Integrate annual recitals in conjunction with other dance instructors.

POSTING TEXT

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must have patience. The ability to explain, instruct, adjust and move at the pace of the class. Must have experience and formal dance training in the are being taught.

Experience

Three years of experience teaching dance Knowledge of communication techniques Ability to work independently

Education

Must be enrolled as a current student at Belmont University.

Three years of study with a public or private dance instructor and/or completion of a college dance program. Must posess knowledge and ability to demonstrate basic to intermediate steps in tap, ballet, jazz or other specialty

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Must be available to work after school hours and some weekends. Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting

Additional Information

This is an off-campus position and applicants MUST have Federal Work Study and reliable means of transportation.
