Position Purpose

This position requires working at The Robert E. Mulloy Studios in the Massey Building and the Johnson Center/Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business. In addition to the responsibilities for the Mulloy Studios, this person will be responsible for checking in and out video/ media equipment for students and faculty, maintaining inventory of the video equipment, and ensuring all equipment leaves and returns to the facility in working condition.

Interface with AET Faculty on studio scheduling for all academic sessions in studios and edit suites. Serve as point person and liaison for all studio scheduling.

Job Function

Enter and maintain Academic and Perk Session Calendars for all studios and rooms in Belmont-Studios.org.

Job Function

Approve (or reject if necessary) Student Work orders for Academic and Perk Reservations.

Job Function

Maintain Invoice Database and Front Desk Sign-in Sheet. Help facilitate students on schedule conflicts if appropriate.

Job Function

Participate in hiring of Staff Engineers and Front Desk Workers. Oversee Staff Engineers and Front Desk Workers including work schedules, time card approvals, and general performance.

Maintain equipment inventory. This includes, equipment check in and out, scheduling maintenance and repairs, refreshing and replacing expendable items (mic stands, cables, clips, etc.) as needed.

Job Function

Oversee general studio maintenance. This includes general upkeep and cleaning, replacing lights, requesting office supplies, making sure doors are locked and lights are off when rooms aren’t in use, etc. Reporting “building issues” such as leaks, HVAC problems, etc. to Belmont Facilities, as well as making sure any AET equipment that needs repaired, updated, or is malfunctioning is reported for maintenance and reported to faculty if it affects Academic Projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of professional studio and recording industry practices and operational procedures.

Broad practical knowledge of acoustic and electronic audio principles including signal flow (standard electronic interfaces), professional microphones (types, common uses and techniques), audio recorder setup and calibration, and outboard signal processors (spectrum, dynamic, and time-based).

Must have understanding of the functions of standard audio/video recording components and systems.

Use standard computer office software to effectively organize session information, generate session documentation, and schedule employees.

Must be articulate and effective with both oral and written communication.

Expertise in the setup, calibration and operation of industry standard analog and digital audio recorders.

Ability to interpret electronic diagrams and signal flow charts and to troubleshoot electronic and acoustic problems quickly and accurately.

Ability to perform basic audio equipment maintenance tasks including cleaning, soldering, assembling component parts, etc. with regard to electronic recording equipment.

Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations. Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work.

Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Experience

A minimum of five years relevant experience in the music industry combined with 3-5 years personnel and client management experience is required. Minimum of three years related sales and/or marketing experience in music or related industry.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field. Masters preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Requires frequent standing, walking and sitting. Repetitious finger and wrist movement, and hearing acuity. Occasionally requires climbing, crawling, reaching high and low, stooping and lifting, carrying, pulling and pushing loads up to 50 lbs. Constantly requires speaking clearly, seeing both near, far and depth perception with color vision.
