Position Purpose

As the academic officer of the Gordon E. Inman College of Health Sciences and Nursing, the Associate Dean serves as part of the leadership team for the College and is responsible for assisting the Dean in program leadership, personnel administration, teaching and supporting the College’s assessment and academic endeavors.

Administrative: Assists the dean in overseeing the administrative and operating needs of the college in managing personnel, resources, finances, internal policies, and strategic planning in order to promote academic excellence and college-wide success.

Job Function

Students Affairs: Assesses and facilitates efforts related to student affairs and wellbeing, including recruitment, retention, and progression.

Job Function

Faculty Recruitment and Development: Assists the dean in recruitment, on-boarding, and retention of faculty and coordinates professional development, research, and inter-professional collaboration efforts.

Job Function

Teaching: Teaches and promotes best practices in teaching, learning, and assessment for continuous improvement in the College.

Job Function

Assessment and Reporting: Facilitates program and college assessment; collects, analyzes, and compiles data for internal and external reporting; and supports accreditation efforts.

Job Function

Representation: Represents the dean and/or college at internal and external functions.

Substantial higher education administrative and leadership experience at the department chair level or above, with a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.

Academic rank of Associate Professor or above, tenured or eligible for tenure.


Earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution in a teaching discipline within the College of Health Sciences and Nursing. Doctoral degree in a related field may be considered.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Occasionally requires standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying and climbing, reaching both high and low. Frequently requires walking and balancing. Constantly requires sitting, repetitious finger and wrist movement, speaking clearly, hearing conversations, hearing (with acuity), seeing near and far with depth perception and color vision.
